From waxing to lashes, ate Melay can do it all. “2 years na po akong nag-lalashes. Dati wax technician ako sa Pink Parlor salon, then I was trained by co-workers na maging lash technician. Nung inilipat ako sa Makati, dun ko nahasa ang skills ko bilang lash technician. Kailangan po talaga ng training para sa pagiging lash technician, kasi po yung iba natututo lang through YouTube. Siyempre delikado po kasi pag mata at kilay, kaya importante po talaga ang training,” she says.

Ate Melay is no stranger to customer-facing work, but her experience with GoodWork so far has brought her to different places and people. According to her, the main difference between working in a salon and as a GoodWork service partner is the variety of people she meets. She explains that when clients book a home service instead of visiting the salon, they can expect a more client-centric approach because the service partner has dedicated that time only for the client: “Mas nakakakilala ako ng iba’t ibang tao sa iba’t ibang lugar. Sa salon, limited lang yung talagang pumupunta. Unlike sa GoodWork, mas comfortable sila dahil bukod sa safe sila, mas maayos yung gawa, unlike sa salon at malls na minamadali.”
Ate Melay makes it a point to put the satisfaction of the client with her service before anything else: “Ang satisfaction ni client ang pinahahalagahan ko. Inaayos ko para may ngiti akong makukuha sa kanila. Magaan sa loob ko kahit simple lang ang words ni client: na satisfied sila at na magbobook ulit sila.”
She also believes that a service does not end when the appointment is over. Client aftercare is just as important as the service itself. Her advice to clients who’ve just gotten their lashes permed? Step away from the mascara and curler. “Yung mascara and lash curler, nakakasira po talaga ng natural lashes. Mas maganda na i-lash lift or extensions mo nalang, pero mas suggested ko yung lash lift, since natural hair mo lang talaga ang gamit and less maintenance. Sa Lash Lift kasi, kahit i-rub mo yan o maghilamos ka, pwede naman. Kung kailangan mo talaga mag-mascare, yung may kaunting chemicals lang. Mas maganda talaga kung Lash Lift with Tint, para di na kailanganin mag-mascara.”
